7 SEVEN NEW WONDERS OF THE WORLD

Christ Redeemer: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

This statue of Jesus stands some 38 meters tall, atop the Corcovado mountain overlooking Rio de Janeiro. Designed by Brazilian Heitor da Silva Costa and created by French sculptor Paul Landowski, it is one of the world’s best-known monuments. The statue took five years to construct and was inaugurated on October 12, 1931. It has become a symbol of the city and of the warmth of the Brazilian people, who receive visitors with open arms.

Great Wall of China: China

The Great Wall of China was built to link existing fortifications into a united defense system and better keep invading Mongol tribes out of China. It is the largest man-made monument ever to have been built and it is disputed that it is the only one visible from space. Many thousands of people must have given their lives to build this colossal construction.

Machu Picchu: Peru

In the 15th century, the Incan Emperor Pachacútec built a city in the clouds on the mountain known as Machu Picchu (“old mountain”). This extraordinary settlement lies halfway up the Andes Plateau, deep in the Amazon jungle and above the Urubamba River. It was probably abandoned by the Incas because of a smallpox outbreak and, after the Spanish defeated the Incan Empire, the city remained ‘lost’ for over three centuries. It was rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911.

Petra: Jordan

On the edge of the Arabian Desert, Petra was the glittering capital of the Nabataean empire of King Aretas IV (9 B.C. to 40 A.D.). Masters of water technology, the Nabataeans provided their city with great tunnel constructions and water chambers. A theater, modelled on Greek-Roman prototypes, had space for an audience of 4,000. Today, the Palace Tombs of Petra, with the 42-meter-high Hellenistic temple facade on the El-Deir Monastery, are impressive examples of Middle Eastern culture.

Pyramid at Chichén Itzá: Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

Chichén Itzá, the most famous Mayan temple city, served as the political and economic center of the Mayan civilization. Its various structures – the pyramid of Kukulkan, the Temple of Chac Mool, the Hall of the Thousand Pillars, and the Playing Field of the Prisoners – can still be seen today and are demonstrative of an extraordinary commitment to architectural space and composition. The pyramid itself was the last, and arguably the greatest, of all Mayan temples.

Roman Colosseum: Rome, Italy

This great amphitheater in the centre of Rome was built to give favors to successful legionnaires and to celebrate the glory of the Roman Empire. Its design concept still stands to this very day, and virtually every modern sports stadium some 2,000 years later still bears the irresistible imprint of the Colosseum’s original design. Today, through films and history books, we are even more aware of the cruel fights and games that took place in this arena, all for the joy of the spectators.

Taj Mahal: Agra, India

This immense mausoleum was built on the orders of Shah Jahan, the fifth Muslim Mogul emperor, to honor the memory of his beloved late wife. Built out of white marble and standing in formally laid-out walled gardens, the Taj Mahal is regarded as the most perfect jewel of Muslim art in India. The emperor was consequently jailed and, it is said, could then only see the Taj Mahal out of his small cell window.

BEST TEAMS IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE (2014)

10. Borussia Dortmund – 83.311 ranking points
The 10th highest ranked team in the Champions League is Borussia Dortmund, who reached the final in 2013. The Germans have emerged as a real European force over the past couple of years and are once again considered contenders for club football’s biggest prize – a tournament they won in 1997. Their dismal showing just prior to the Klopp-inspired resurrection counts against them in their coefficient points however, explaining their seemingly low ranking.
9. FC Porto – 89.009 points –
The two-time winners of the European Cup, Porto have been one of the regular features in the competition. The Portuguese giants have seen mixed fortunes over the last four campaigns, but their pedigree ensures they are in the top 10.
8. Arsenal – 91.992 points
Drawn among the top seeds in this season’s iteration of the tournament, Arsenal are at real risk of slipping from the leading pack ahead of next year’s competition (should they qualify that is). Despite being a regular fixture in the Champions League, the Gunners failure to get beyond the last-16 in recent seasons is starting to hinder their coefficient ranking.
7. Schalke 04 – 96.311 points
While they were in pot two for this season’s draw, if everything was remain as it is right now, Schalke would be among the big guns of pot one. The German’s semi-final appearance in 2011 adds huge weight to their ranking and as such they are technically the seventh best team in the tournament right now.
6. Atletico Madrid – 99.599 points
Last season’s runners up, Atletico Madrid have been inconsistent in Europe to say the least. However, a huge 37.600 points for reaching the final last season, paired with their 34.171 points for winning the Europa League in 2012 means the La Liga giants are well within the top ranked teams in the competition.
5. Benfica – 113.009 points
Consistency has been the keyfor Benfica, with the Portuguese outfit having reached two Europa League finals and a Champions League quarter final in the last three years. That impressive return has benefitted them in terms of UEFA ranking.
4. Chelsea – 122.992 points
It is unsurprising to see Chelsea this far up the rankings, especially given their success in Europe in recent years. A Champions League final victory followed by glory in the Europa League 12 months later certainly boosted their coefficient points total.
3. Bayern Munich – 128.311 points
Unquestionably one of the giants of world football, Bayern Munich’s consistent positioning in the semis and finals has seen them close the gap on the continent’s leading sides. Expect to see their ranking increase further come next season.
2. Barcelona – 131.599 points
The four time winners of the European Cup, Barcelona’s place among the elite of the world football is never in doubt. Their continued success and strong finishes over the past four seasons means they are the second highest ranked team.
1. Real Madrid – 143.599 points
At number one with a huge 12 point advantage is Real Madrid. Los Blancos have crashed out at the semi final stage three times over the last four years, and crucially won the competition – the famed La Decima – last year to put them head and shoulders above everyone else. The only way they will not remain top of the rankings would be if they failed to escape the group stages this year.

ROBBERY SUSPECT GETS STUCK WHILE TRYING TO ESCAPE HIS CELL IN UYO

A 35 year old robbery suspect got stuck in a hole
as he tried to escape his cell from his cell in
Oyo. The inmate, Femi Akanji was caught after
burgling a shop on the 12th of November 2014..He
narrated to the Tribune why he decided to escape.

I decided to escape from the cell to avoid the
trouble I had put myself into, unknown to me that I
was complicating matter. After my two cell mates
had slept, I started using my hands to dig the wall
silently in the dead of the night. I started from a
point where I noticed a crack in the cell. When
some bricks fell, I further used them in digging and
after I had created a hole, I pushed my head into it
and tried to escape before dawn. Unfortunately for
me, I got stuck, so I shouted. My cry brought the
policemen on duty towards the cell and woke my
co-inmates up. That was how I was rescued and
secured till I was brought to Ibadan.”

Now, I know that crime does not pay. If God
should save me from the current situation I am in
now, I will never venture into crime again in my
life. I have realised that whatever is acquired
fraudulently or any ill-gotten wealth does not last.
I have my time and life. If I had been contented
with my little business and had not engaged in
crime, I would not have lost my belongings which
now serve as part of the exhibits recovered.”

A frenchman develops a pill that makes fart smell like chocolate

A Frenchman may have come up with the perfect solution to one of life's major problems after he claimed to have invented a pill that makes bodily gases smell like roses and chocolate.
The 65-year-old inventor Christian Poincheval from north-western France has added a chocolate flavour to his repertoire of scented pills which are all designed to make the smell of flatulence much more pleasant.

Just in time for the festive season Poincheval has added a new line to his array of pills - “The Father Christmas fart pill that gives your farts the scent of chocolate”.
“It’s a nice present for the festive season,” he told The Local on Tuesday. "There will be a real need for these pills over Christmas."

Poincheval, who has been involved in homeopathy, claims the all-natural herbal medicine not only facilitates intestinal transit, but also neutralises the odour of the gas let out.
According to the website that sells the pills, which also come in rose and violet scents, the herb mixture also helps reduce bloating.
He said he began developing them six years ago after a rather disagreeable dinner with friends.
"We had just come back from Switzerland and we were eating a lot with our friends and the smell from the flatulence was really terrible. We couldn't breathe so me and friend decided something had to be done," Poincheval said.
"When we were vegetarian we noticed that our gas smelt like vegetables, like the odour from a cow pat, but when we started eating meat, the smell of the flatulence became much disagreeable," he said.
"We needed to invent something that made them smell nicer"

NATIVES RESCUE DOG THAT WAS ALMOST SWALLOWED ALIVE BY A GIANT SNAKE: AMAZING

THE NIGERIA ARMY TAKES BACK CHIBOK FROM BOKO HARAM

The Nigerian army said Sunday it had recaptured and “secured” the
northeastern town of Chibok, where Islamic militants abducted more than
200 schoolgirls in April.
The army recaptured the town Saturday evening from Boko Haram militants,
spokesman General Olajide Olaleye told AFP in a text message. “Mopping up
ops ongoing. (The) town is now secured,” he said.
Leading elder Pogu Bitrus told AFP the town was re-taken in a joint
operation with local vigilantes known as the Civilian Joint Task Force,
who back up the military in several parts of the northeast where Boko
Haram is active.
He said the vigilantes fought inside the town while army soldiers “stayed
outside the town to mop up the insurgents trying to escape.”
Boko Haram had captured the town on Thursday after a battle lasting
several hours.
Several inhabitants said the army had fled the assault, leaving the
vigilantes to fight on their own.
Control of Chibok is crucial to the reputation of the army and the
government, which have come under harsh criticism for their failure to
rescue the schoolgirls.
The Islamists stormed the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok on
the evening of April 14 and forced 276 students onto trucks in a mass
abduction that caused global outrage.
Fifty-seven managed to escape.
The insurrection by Boko Haram, which wants to create an Islamic state in
mainly Muslim northern Nigeria, has claimed more than 10,000 lives in the
past five years.
They have seized more than 20 towns and villages in the northeast in
recent months.

WHY PEOPLE BREATHE INTO PAPER BAGS

You've seen plenty of movies and TV shows where a person hyperventilates and is given a paper bag to breathe into. Can wood pulp actually help with hyperventilation? And why do so many doctors want the practice to stop?
The paper bag as a medical device features in everything from old Looney Toons cartoons to big budget movies (albeit mostly romantic comedies). Why are people who start hyperventilating given someone's lunch bag to breathe into? That won't give them the oxygen they need.
And the people do need oxygen. There isn't enough of it getting to their tissues. Unfortunately, hyperventilation isn't going to help. Breathing with too much rapidity is one of those unfortunate responses that seems to short-circuit the body's survival instincts. A person who is hyperventilating has plenty of oxygen in their blood, but it isn't making it to where it needs to go. Blood doesn't just carry oxygen, it carries carbon dioxide, and it needs to carry carbon dioxide. The body responds to the amount of carbon dioxide in the blood. Too little carbon dioxide causes two things to happen. First, there is vasoconstriction, the narrowing of the blood vessels, which chokes off a blood supply to the extremities of the body.
Secondly, there is the matter of blood pH. As it carbon dioxide levels go up, the pH of blood goes down towards the acid end of the pH scale. This stimulates the hemoglobin to release oxygen into the tissues. As carbon dioxide levels go down - as they do when the person hyperventilates - blood pH heads up towards the base end of the scale. This causes the hemoglobin to hang on to its oxygen. So even when blood gets through constricted vessels, it can't deliver as much oxygen to tissues.
The person feels like they're smothering, which they are, and hyperventilates in an attempt to get more oxygen. This decreases the carbon dioxide in their blood even more, and exacerbates the problem. The best way to stop it is to shove a barrier between the sufferer and the open air. By forcing them to rebreathe their exhaled carbon dioxide, it's possible to increase carbon dioxide levels in their blood, and deliver more oxygen to tissues. The paper bag, low-tech as it is, actually does help.
Many doctors, however, are asking that people stop using it. It's not that it's ineffective in treating pure hyperventilation. The problem is, a lot of things trigger hyperventilation. While someone who is panicking can be helped by upping the level of carbon dioxide in their blood, someone who is having a heart attack, or an asthma attack, might be killed by an increase of carbon dioxide. Without knowing the exact cause of the hyperventilation, it can be dangerous to treat it. Perhaps it's better just to hyperventilate for a while — and call a doctor if it doesn't stop.

THE ORIGIN OF EBOLA (GUINEA): PATIENT ZERO WITH THE FIRST EBOLA CASE

In the Guinean village where the current West African Ebola outbreak began, 14 graves mark the spot where the lethal virus began to spiral out of control.
International aid workers who recently visited Meliandou say nothing is normal anymore and that families have been ripped apart by the devastating toll of the virus.

The first known victim of the current outbreak was 2-year-old Emile Ouamouno, who lived in the picturesque forest village with his parents and three sisters, including 4-year-old Philomene.

The boy fell sick last December with a mysterious illness that caused fever, black stools and vomiting. About a week after his death, Philomene got sick and died. She was shortly followed by the children's pregnant mother and grandmother.

It would be months before international health officials identified little Emile as West Africa's "patient zero" in a deadly outbreak that continues to double in size every few weeks. So far, Ebola has been blamed for the deaths of nearly 5,000 people among more than 10,000 cases, the vast majority in West Africa.

JOB EMPLOYMENT ONLINE AS A STUDENT: HOW TO WORK FOR GOOGLE

The reason why most people dont have a blog is because they dont really have the full details on what
"blogging" is all about, others that know about blog or how to blog have not yet ventured into it with seriousness! Lets start with the basics first!

WHAT IS GOOGLE BLOG ALL ABOUT?

A google blog is simply a means provided by google for people to work for them, and they'll pay you if you are a TALENTED, PATIENT, AND HARDWORKING BLOGGER. Note how I capitalized these qualities, because they are the qualities you require as a blogger. Now lets move to the next question!

HOW DOES GOOGLE MAKE MONEY?

Now Google make over 70% of their money through ADVERTISING! Google is the MOST popular website in the world! So which means a lot of people use Google, And this serves as a business opportunity as it'll attract a lot of business firms who want to advertise. Note: once anyone has a means of attracting people, be you the media, be you a star. You are a potential means of advertisement, and that is what Google is, and a BIG one for that matter. Therefore Google paste adverts in their web pages for business firms for a certain pay, and this is how Google make their money. Now lets move to the next question!

HOW DO YOU WORK FOR GOOGLE THROUGH BLOGGING?

Google has made possible for people to create their own personal employment if they have the qualities I listed above (That is all the qualification you need! No certificates, Nothing!). Google advertise on their pages to make billions of dollars! Now they give you opportunities as a student, a nursing Mother, a single Father etc to employ yourself using their blog. Now when you create a blog, what Google does is to give you a small percentage of their page for you to write anything you think that'll attract people (This is the part where your TALENT comes into play). The problem now will be how long will it take you (This is the part where your PATIENCE comes into play) and how serious you are with your blog (This is the part where your HARDWORK comes into play). Now once you have ventured into this employment opportunity and you've started to attract people on your blog. Google has a system called Google Adsense, This system is left to you to activate anytime you like. You can choose to activate it before you start attracting people to your blog, or you can activate it after, but whenever you do, the system allows google to advertise inside your blog, but this time they'll pay you a percentage of the billions of dollars they make if someone clicks on their advert through your blog (This is called PPC meaning Pay Per Click). You can also decide to make money on your blog by yourself. This involves either selling e-books (online books) or advertising for business men yourself by meeting with them, Or using various forms of adverts. As far as you are TALENTED, PATIENT, AND HARDWORKING enough to generate traffic to your blog. You have already made yourself a self employed student under google, and you get to call the shots on how to manage your blog! (But you have to read Google's Terms and Conditions first, in order to know your limits).

CONCLUSION AND ADVICE

Now you have seen the employment opportunity available for you online 24/7, just waiting for you to grab it if you think you have what it takes. Its now all in your hands! My advice to you, if you were inspired by this article, is to NEVER GIVE UP! That is the motto of every successful blogger. To be frank blogging is very simple. It is just like a social network, instead of posting interesting things that people will "like" and "comment" on, and then FACEBOOK will grab all the money. You create your own blog and post your talented status and let people come to your blog to read it. It just pains me to see people with 500 "likes" and 700 "comments" on Facebook, and yet they dont own a blog. What are you waiting for? If people find your Posts interesting, then try and make money from it by creating a blog. DONT WASTE IT!

A horse travels the same distance daily.
I noticed that two of his legs travels 10km and the remaining two travels 12km.
Obviously two of a horse's legs cannot be 2km ahead of the other 2.

The horse is perfectly normal. How is this possible?

THE SCIENCE BEHIND BREAKING BOTTLES WITH YOUR BARE HANDS

Break a Beer Bottle With Your Bare Hands Step 4.jpg
When you put water up to 5cm from the brim of a beer bottle and you wrap your fingers around the top with one hand and strike it with speed using the other hand, WHAM! The bottle shatters!
EXPLANATION
The bottom of the bottle breaks off due to "cavitation." The bottle briefly and suddenly moves downward when you strike the top. The water inside of it doesn't move as quickly, creating an extremely brief void (vacuum) at the bottom. The water does catch up with the glass, and comes crashing down into the bottom. If the force is great enough, the bottle can no longer support the water crashing down, and cracks or breaks at the bottom. Even if the crack is minor, the inertia and weight of the water will break the bottom out of the bottle.

HOW CURRENT ARE YOU? FIRST ARTIFICIAL EYE IN GERMANY, CURES BLINDNESS

Photo: First artificial eye in Germany, first device to restore almost perfect vision to the blind

Researchers in Germany have unveiled the Alpha IMS retinal prosthesis; a device that completely redefines the state of the art of implanted, bionic devices. The first round of clinical trials were a huge success, with eight out of nine patients reporting that they can now detect mouth shapes (smiles, frowns), small objects such as telephones and cutlery, signs on doors, and — most importantly — whether a glass of wine is red or white.
The Alpha IMS, developed by the University of Tübingen in Germany, is exciting for two reasons. First, it is connected to your brain via 1,500 electrodes, providing unparalleled visual acuity and resolution (the recently-approved-in-the-US Argus II retinal prosthesis has just 60 electrodes). Second, Alpha IMS is completely self-contained: Where the Argus II relies on an external camera to relay data to the implant embedded in your retina, the Alpha IMS prosthesis has a built-in sensor that directly gathers its imagery from the light that passes into your eye. This has the knock-on effect that the Argus II requires you to turn your head if you wish to look from side to side, while the Alpha IMS allows you to swivel your eyeballs normally. In essence, Alpha IMS is the first true, self-contained bionic eye.

WHY YOU SHOULDNT PUT METAL IN A MICROWAVE

why does your microwave manual say not to put metal in the microwave?
First, let’s talk a little about how a microwave oven actually works.  At its core, a microwave oven is a pretty simple device.  It’s basically just a magnetron hooked up to a high voltage source.  This magnetron directs microwaves into a metal box.  These generated microwaves then bounce around inside the microwave until they are absorbed via dielectric loss in various molecules resulting in the molecules heating up (more on how this works in the Bonus Factoids section).  Matter that work well here are things such as water, ceramics, certain polymers, etc.  These all end up converting microwave energy into heat quite effectively.

Metals, on the other hand, are great conductors of electricity, being packed with electrons that can move freely.  Depending on the shape/type/thickness/distribution/etc. of metal, you may observe some heating of the metal itself in the microwave or none at all.  You may also observe some arcing of electricity or none at all.  In any event, when these microwaves hit the metal, free electrons on the surface of the metal end up moving from side to side very rapidly.  This, in turn, prevents the electric wave from entering the metal; thus, the waves end up being reflected instead.  However, there is also the potential that this ends up creating a sufficient charge density that the electrical potential in the metal object exceeds the dielectric breakdown of air.  When this happens, it will result in arcing inside your microwave, from that metal to another electrical conductor with lower potential (often the wall of the microwave).  In extreme cases, these electrical sparks can end up damaging the wall by burning small holes in the metal wall.  It can also end up burning out the magnetron in your microwave oven or, in modern microwaves, can provide a surge that ends up damaging sensitive microelectronics, possibly killing your microwave or making it unsafe to use, in the case of a hole in the inner metal wall in your microwave.
